Where to Stay in Mallorca Without a Car

Palma is the best overall.

Our number one choice for lodging in Mallorca without a vehicle is Palma. It could be our top pick for living in Mallorca, even if you drive a car. It was really simple to navigate about Palma during our few days in Mallorca without a car!

The main city on the island is Palma de Mallorca, and with its lively Spanish culture, there’s much to see and do! You are also allowed to drink tap water there, and it’s the nearest airport to Palma! Palma has the greatest nightlife and shopping (see out the Passeig De Born).

Because Palma is conveniently located near almost every sight and city on your Mallorca itinerary, it’s the ideal spot to stay if you don’t have a car. The city is serviced by the EMT bus route. As an alternative, you may get to virtually any place by bus by going to Palmas’ main bus station (Estacio Intermodal), which is next to the Antique rail station and across from Plaça d’Espanya. The TIB bus route, which links Palma to the rest of the island, is probably what you’ll take.

You might have to go back to Palma to take another bus if you stay in a different town or city on the island, which is a huge waste of time!

Santanyi or Colonia de Sant Jordi are the best places to relax on the beach.

If you want to avoid the crowds and make the most of your beach time, Santanyi is one of our favorite little towns to visit. Your Mallorca bucket list should include a visit to Santanyi, a serene, laid-back community with stunning vistas and rock formations like Es Pontas, which is situated away from the resorts!

A quick bus journey will get you to some of Mallorca’s greatest beaches and coves, such as Es Trenc, Cala Llombards, and Calo Des Moro.

For beachgoers who wish to be near the beach but still have something to do when it’s not too hot, Colonia De Sant Jordi is a great substitute. It’s a busy small resort town with lots of great beaches, including the well-known and breathtaking “Es Trenc” beach, which has blue water and white sand. It’s packed, particularly in the summer when restaurants and clubs line the bustling promenade.

We suggest going to Santanyi because it’s closer to other beaches by bus. On the other hand, Colonia De Sant Jordi is the best place for those looking for additional activities. Either way, these are great locations to stay.

Palma Nova is the best beach and nightlife destination.

We should note one important disclaimer, though: Palma Nova is not our type of place to party. But we want to make sure you get all the information since it may be yours.

Situated on the western side of the Bay of Palma lies a resort known as Palma Nova. It features a lovely promenade, restaurants, bars, and a variety of beach resorts. Theme parks and waterparks are also available! I was not lying when I stated it was for visitors!

Although it doesn’t have the same romantic, carefree vibe as Santanyi or Colonia De Sant Jordi, this is the place to go if you want to enjoy a vibrant nightlife and relax on the beach.

It is not recommended to remain in Magaluf, the neighbor next door, even if it is only a short distance away. Magaluf is famous for drawing visitors who call Mallorca ‘Majorca’ and for being the scene of wild parties where 20-year-olds throw up on their flip-flops. That is not ideal.

If you do decide to depart Palma Nova, it is easily accessible from Palma by bus, and from there you can take any bus to the remainder of the island from the city center.

Soller/Port Soller is the best village to explore.

Situated near the Tramuntana Mountain Range on Mallorca’s northwest coast are the charming beach towns of Soller and Port Soller. There are lots of great pubs, restaurants, and streets to explore in the bustling town. The harbor of Soller is called Port Soller, and it features a lovely promenade with dining options and a beach for lounging.

The greatest thing you can do as parents is maybe go on a stroll together while holding a cone.

There’s enough to do in both Soller and Port Soller, which are major tourist sites; nevertheless, the atmosphere is not as calm and relaxing as in Santanyi or Colonia De Sant Jordi, but it’s still more laid-back than in Palma or Palma Nova.

Additionally, Soller/Port Soller has excellent public transport access, making it a perfect starting point for seeing the mountains or going to neighboring highland communities like Dei or Valldemossa.

Valldemossa is ideal for couples seeking romance.

Nestled in the middle of the Serra Tramuntana Mountain Range, Valldemossa is a charming mountain hamlet and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It provides several romantic dining options and spots for sharing a drink of wine. You can take your significant other for a stroll around its charming streets. If hiking is your thing when visiting Mallorca, it’s also near to some amazing routes!

Valldemossa is a great starting point for exploring the area because of its excellent connections to the other important villages and mountain towns in the island’s north. You might have to go via Soller to get to some of the communities.

While Valldemossa is more busy and touristic than Soller, it still has a romantic vibe, so for couples who want to bring romance to Mallorca, Valldemossa is the ideal spot to stay without a car. Oh my god.

Avoiding Places in Mallorca If You Don’t Have a Car

Caleb and I think that if you don’t have a car, you should stay away from the northern section of the island. This may be a contentious stance. Many had advised us to stay in Alcudia or Port de Pollença while we were organizing our schedule for Mallorca, and we are so happy that we disregarded their advice (no offense intended!).

You’ll have to spend a lot of time retracing your steps if you remain in the northern portion of the island, as most buses to other areas of the island return via Palma.

Moreover, a lot of the buses only operate once an hour, which severely limits your flexibility and mobility. Your schedule will require close attention, which might take away from the fun of the holidays!

The west of the island has the must-see settlements, while the south and southeast of the island have the nicest beaches, in our view. Therefore, it makes little sense to remain there unless you wish to be close to the little towns and beaches in the north.

What to Think About When Choosing a Place to Stay Without a Car

Palma has the most reasonably priced hotels and the quickest access to public transit, so if money is tight, stay there. To maximize your time together, especially if you have a considerable budget, think about going to a less frequented location.

Take the number of days you want to spend in Mallorca into consideration when choosing your lodging. We do not recommend staying somewhere other than Palma if you are just here for a few days. You don’t want to waste time traveling from city to city if you don’t have much time because Palma has the best public transport links.

Palma may help you achieve your goal of seeing as much as you can in as little time.
