Welcome to our little corner of the internet, where we are all about bonding as a couple through incredible events that usually involve food and alcohol. Isn’t that the finest thing about traveling? Caleb and I believe so.
When we lived in the city, we made it our mission to locate the most entertaining, romantic, and FOOD AND WINE-filled activities for couples like us who enjoy eating and drinking in the city.
In this brief tour to Budapest for foodies, we’ll offer our top three unique activities you’ll enjoy as a fellow food and wine enthusiast couple. These will make your trip to Budapest a little more memorable. Let’s get to it!
3 Must-Do Activities in Budapest For Couples:
01. For The Couple Who Is All About The Wine
Caleb and I both enjoy wine. I prefer white, while he prefers red unless it’s from Hungary. “Hungary made a white wine lover out of me!” he exclaims. The white wines are among the best we’ve tasted in all the nations we’ve visited.
If you’re a wine fan like us, you must go wine tasting in Budapest. It’s the ideal method to learn about the distinct kinds because we promise you’ve never heard of the majority, if not all, of them because Hungarian wines are not exported. The Spectator thinks that Hungarian wine is Europe’s best-kept secret, and we agree!
Our wine-tasting presenter explained that Hungarians consume all of the wine before exporting it. 😅 It’s also because Hungarian wine is so difficult to grasp that exporters don’t want to bother learning to read it!
So, what is the finest wine tasting in Budapest? Fortunately for you, we tried a few of them (it’s a difficult task, but someone has to do it!), and we firmly feel the greatest option is the wine-tasting experience at Wine The Gap. It’s a little off of the major tourist area, but it’s worth it!
Mickey, the proprietor, is a wine judge, but not in a snobbish manner. He’s quite nice and knowledgeable, and he’ll tell you everything you need to know about Hungarian wine while also allowing you to sample it! You can see how much wine we had in the video and photographs on this website.
You also get a generous serving of local sausage, cheese, bread, and the most wonderful, golden pork-fat spread that tastes like liquid gold mixed with bacon. I am starving.
PRO TIP: If you do this trip, eat a full brunch so you’re hungry for all the food! Perhaps get a tasty chimney cake for an afternoon snack to tide you over?
The value for money is fantastic, and you won’t find anything more local than wine tasting! It was one of the best ways we spent our money! Tell him Taylor and Caleb sent you since we visited so frequently that we became close friends! If you only have a few days in the city, do this!
02. For the Couple Who Wants To Create Delicious Memories
If you want something more than just sitting and drinking wine (which is still occurring here), we highly recommend Foodapest’s food tour!
We met Joseph, the proprietor, and a local Budapestian (is that a word?) at the Central Market Hall, where he led us on a shopping excursion for fresh, local foods. The trip includes several local samples, with the highlight being his family’s BEST blackberry Palinka (a local liquor that typically tastes like rubbing alcohol).
He and his brother oversee the entire business, which is completely family-owned. If you want to support a local business, this is for you.
We then went to a local apartment and cooked a traditional meal alongside him and another couple. He taught us some basic cooking skills in a nice way, not like Gordon Ramsay was about to yell at us, you know?
We could help ourselves with exquisite Hungarian food and wine, which added to the enjoyment of the evening.
After the night, we all sat down and shared the delicious Chicken Paprikash dumplings family style, returning home with a new recipe, fun memories, and a full tummy of comfort food and wine.
Oh, and new buddies. We even went out to cocktail bars with everyone afterward!
If you want a complete experience (with an entire evening planned for you without having to think about what to do or how to get in for dinner), this is the one for you!
03. If You Want Wine and Views
We had four boat trips in Budapest because we wanted to be 100% convinced that we were offering the best one for you, and we don’t enjoy promoting things we haven’t done ourselves!
Our preferred choice was the Legenda cruise at sunset, which included a glass of wine or beer! Other cruises did not allow us to choose, so we appreciated having this option. Furthermore, you might purchase extra alcoholic beverages on board to keep you going.
This particular boat was built of glass, so even if you stayed inside, you could enjoy breathtaking vistas. There was also an audio guide available if you wanted to learn. Alternatively, head to a massive open-air roof with seats (but no tables) and see Budapest sparkle at night! I know it sounds cliche, but it’s really lovely and romantic.
We particularly like that this boat took a different path than the others, going all the way around Margaret Island for additional sight.
This is the ideal way to spend an evening if you want to be intimate and romantic while also getting your Hungarian wine fix. If you don’t take a boat down the Danube, you’ll miss out on seeing Budapest in unique ways!
Conclusion:
So, folks, those are our top three things to do in Budapest for couples! If you enjoy food and wine and want to do something special as a couple, these three options will not disappoint. What if they do? Well, you just need to drink more wine. How sad.
